Royals Drop Opener at Simpson, 4-1

The Bethel University men's soccer team opened the season with a 4-1 loss to Simpson College in Iowa on Thursday afternoon. Simpson got the scoring started early in this nonconference affair with a goal by Nick Joslyn in the 5th minute. Bethel's lone goal came off a header by Danny Jaderholm. Connor Miller assisted on the goal that would tie the game at one in the 28th minute. Simpson added a goal in the first half to go up 2-1 at half and then added two more in the second half to win 4-1.

The Royals were out shot 22-4, however out of the 22 shots for Simpson only 8 were on net. Simpson fired 11 shots in each half, while the Royals managed just one shot in the second half of action. With a limited amount of scoring chances it made it hard for the Royals to make a comeback. Goalie Jakob Bartels had four saves for the Royals in the loss.

The Royals fall to 0-1 and will play their home opener Saturday Sept. 3 against the University of Northwestern-St. Paul at 1 p.m. at the Ona Orth Soccer Complex.
