MOORHEAD, Minn.—Bethel University's sweep train continued Thursday evening, as the Royals (10-12, 5-3 MIAC) defeated Concordia College twice in Moorhead. Mikayla Moore's three-run home run pushed BU past the Cobbers (14-10, 1-5 MIAC) in game one and
Karli Persson's 13 strikeouts in game two helped Bethel secure the sweep.
Â
Ironically, both games resulted in a 3-0 score. Bethel's only runs in game one came in the top of the third when Moore blasted a three-run shot to right-center with Caroline Kivsito and
Shelbi Swenson on base. The Royals only mustered five hits in Thursday's opener, though, which required exceptional pitching inside the circle.
Â
Thankfully senior hurler
Lindsay Edeen came through. Edeen allowed four hits, zero walks, and zero runs, while striking out six in the complete-game shutout. Edeen, who lowered her season ERA to 2.89, has now given up 12 runs in the last 46 innings.
Â
Game two was very similar, as Bethel was held to just six hits in seven innings. Three of the team's half-dozen hits belonged to
Kalyn Sorensen, who finished 3-for-4 with her second home run in as many days. Sorensen's senior sidekick
Caroline Kivisto also recorded a solo home run in her 2-for-3 performance at the plate. The only other player to get a hit was Micalya Moore, who also scored an insurance run in the final frame.
Â
Coming off an all-time high of becoming the program's all-time wins leader Wednesday evening,
Karli Persson gave an encore Thursday evening by striking out 13 and allowing zero runs in the complete-game win. Concordia scattered seven hits and two walks, but Persson tallied at least one strikeout in every inning (nine in frames 2-5).
Â
Now 4-0 in their last two conference series', Bethel hopes to use that momentum Saturday when they play host to Hamline University, who is also 5-3 on the season. First pitch at Ona Orth Complex is scheduled for 1 p.m.
