Royals Go to Collegeville and Defeat SJU 3-1

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - On a brisk fall day in Collegeville, Minnesota the Bethel University men's soccer team picked up their second straight conference win over Saint John's University, 3-1. After picking up their first conference win up last week against Augsburg, the Royals had a full week to prepare for the Johnnies and it showed.

The scoring started early for the Royals as in the fourth minute Bethel benefitted from an own goal after a throw in. The Royals would keep that 1-0 lead into half time despite getting only one shot off in the first half.

The Royals struck first in the second half when Danny Jaderholm snipped one into the back of the net off off another throw in.

"Danny Jaderholm had his second game winner in a row and is playing very well at the moment," Coach Iwaszkowiec said.

Seven minutes later, in the 70th minute, JT Thweatt added a third goal for the Royals off of an assist from Kevin Hintz. This gave the Royals a comfortable 3-0 lead and they would cruise from there winning 3-1.

"JT Thweatt has also quietly been effecting games in big ways," Iwaszkowiec said. "His defensive pressure is fantastic and he was rewarded with a very deserving goal."

The defense was the main story as Sam Asfahl had 10 saves in the net and even though the Johnnies got more chances than the Royals in the game they only surrendered the one goal.

"Our overall defensive efforts where solid," Iwaszkowiec said. "And Sam Asfahl was outstanding in goal. He made a number of huge saves to give us a chance."

The Royals improve to 6-4-1 overall and 2-3-1 in conference play. Their next contest will be Wednesday against the University of Minnesota-Morris at 4 pm at the Ona Orth Complex.

"I am so proud of our efforts today," Iwaszkowiec said. "The boys are believing in each other and it is fun to see the growth over the last few weeks."
