Strong Offensive Performance Leads Bethel Past Concordia

ARDEN HILLS, Minn.—Bethel University's volleyball team exploded with offense Thursday night, as the Royals (13-6, 3-3 MIAC) composed 62 kills and a .286 hitting percentage en route to a 3-1 victory over Concordia College. BU topped the Cobbers (7-10, 3-3 MIAC) in the opening two sets 25-12 and 25-20, but Concordia mustered a win in the third set by a result of 27-25. Bethel closed out the match in the final frame, however, finishing the fourth with a 25-20 victory.
 
The Royals tallied 73.0 points throughout the night on 62 kills, six aces, and five blocks, while also posting 59 assists and 74 digs. BU hit .268 throughout the four sets, highlighted by a .405 effort in the second.
 
Recently voted MIAC Volleyball Hitter of the Week, Callie Sinclair continued to lead BU, as the senior outside hitter amassed 19 kills, 10 digs, and a hitting percentage of .255. Tina Hoppe followed right behind Sinclair with 15 kills, 11 digs, and an attacking mark of .281. Karin Canakes and Brooke Olstad both tallied eight kills with a hitting percentage of .250 or higher. Canakes added four block assists.
 
Holly Ellwanger racked up 32 assists, six kills, and 10 digs throughout the night, while Katie Lubben recorded 22 assists and 13 digs. Leading the Royals from the back row was Dominique Dabu, who totaled 19 digs.
 
Now riding a three-game win streak, Bethel takes its show on the road Saturday when they face nonconference foe, Wartburg College. First serve between the Royals and Knights is scheduled for 10 a.m. (Live stats | Live video)
