ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University women's soccer team fell victim to two early goals by the visiting Gustavus Adolphus College Gusties and could not find the back of the net themselves as they dropped their second straight game, 2-0. After winning ten consecutive games, the Royals find themselves on the other end of back-to-back losses for the first time this season.
The Gusties struck quickly as they capitalized on a pair of defensive miscues by the Royals and Maddison Ackiss scored both GAC goals. The first came at 3:15 and the second late in the seventh minute of the first period. From that point on the first half was an evenly played affair with each team getting five shots, two on goal for the Royals that were saved by the GAC keeper. The second half was dominated by Bethel, but did not reflect that way on the scoreboard as the Royals outshot Gustavus 13-4 and 8-2 in shots on goal, but they were unable to score.
The loss drops the Royals overall record to 10-3-1 and the MIAC standing of 5-2 which is good for a solid third place in the MIAC standings. The Royals next contest will be a big one as they travel to take on league leading and unbeaten St. Thomas (11-1-1, 6-0-1) on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
