ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Bethel University men's soccer team suffered a loss Saturday to Gustavus Adolphus College, snapping their three game winning streak. The Royals came in the game undermanned due to injuries to some key players and had significantly more chances than the Gusties but were unable to score a goal.
The scoring started early in the fourth minute when Gustavus scored a goal when Bethel's goalie,
Sam Asfahl, fell down. The first half had a lot of physical play and included four yellow cards (two for each team). Despite the physicality of the game the Royals created chances for themselves but could not capitalize.
In the second half the game stayed 1-0 until the 74
th minute when the Gusties scored another goal getting the Royals out of position just enough to put the game out of reach for the Royals.
"I was very proud of our efforts today," Coach
Jeremy Iwaszkowiec said. "I thought we played a very good game. We created enough chances to win the game. Their goalkeeper made a few great saves and we just missed wide on a few opportunities. Again, I thought we were very good and unfortunately just didn't score. That is the game sometimes."
The loss drops the Royals record to 8-6-1 overall and 2-4-1 in conference. The next game will be Saturday, October 22nd when the Royals travel to Moorhead, Minnesota to play Concordia.
