Royals Win Showdown with Augsburg, Sits Alone at Top of MIAC Standings

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. –  With first place in the MIAC on the line and a pair of long winning streaks at stake,  an intense game took place Saturday afternoon between the Bethel Royals and the Augsburg Auggies. Ultimately the Royals came out on top with a 1-0 victory, increasing their winning streak to eight games while snapping the Auggies eight-game winning streak.

The fast-paced plays and powerful shots on the goal proved this game to be a significant one for the Royals. As the first half began, the teams had equal possession of the ball as shots were being made by both teams. The game became slightly heated as the aggression level increased and the women worked intently towards scoring in the first half.

The one and only Royals goal was scored by senior Mikayla Nordin in the 62nd minute of the game by the help of an assist by sophomore Maggie Sipe. The Auggies took 22 shots on the goal between the two halves, but freshman Dylan Melby was unbeatable today as she impressively drove away any chances for Augsburg to score. The warm, sunny day hosted a win for the Bethel women as they finished the game against the Auggies with a score of 1-0 and an upstanding, overall record of 8-1-1.

The Royals will leave their home at the Ona Orth Athletic Complex and travel to Mankato where they will play Bethany Lutheran College at 7 p.m. on Monday, October 3rd. The game following will be on Saturday, October 8th at 1 p.m. against the College of Saint Benedict where they Royals can redeem themselves from their 2-0 loss last 2015 season.
