KENOSHA, Wis.—The Bethel University volleyball team closed out the weekend tournament in Kenosha, Wis., with a split Saturday against No. 13-ranked Chicago and Carroll University. The Royals dropped three grueling games to another Top 15 team before defeating Carroll in straight sets.
BU lost its fourth straight match and third consecutive to a Top 15-ranked opponent to begin their day when falling to the Maroons 25-19, 25-20, and 25-20. Bethel hit .222 throughout the contest, with 44 digs, 36 assists, and four blocks.
Tegan LaBerge and
Carlee Hoppe each slammed nine kills and hit over .300 throughout the match. Hoppe recorded eight digs, while LaBerge added three blocks to her final stat line.
Kristi Lauwers had an incredible performance, as she finished with eight kills and an attacking percentage of .571.
Katie Lubben and
Mikayla Morrow tallied 18 and 14 assists, while
Kali Johnson led all Royals with 15 digs.
BU made sure not to come away from the weekend invite empty handed though, as they defeated Carroll University 25-19, 25-20, and 25-10 in their final match. Bethel collected 49 kills, while hitting .306 as a team. Seven service aces and seven blocks were also instrumental in the win.
Carlee Hoppe took control of the match, as the junior outside crushed 19 kills on 39 attempts and hit .462 throughout the three sets. Hoppe also led her team and all of the opposing players with 16 digs. Also posting double-digit digs defensively was
Kali Johnson, who finished with 14.
Tegan LaBerge posted nine kills and four blocks, while
Nicole Deberry and
Tina Hoppe finished with seven and six kills, respectively.
Katie Lubben and
Mikayla Morrow each finished with 20 or more assists.
The Royals jump back into conference action this Wednesday evening, when they host Carleton College for a 7 p.m. matchup at the Robertson Center Gym.
