Bethel Routs Augsburg in MIAC Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Bethel Softball team brought out the brooms on a beautiful Thursday afternoon when they took a pair of wins against Augsburg College. The Royals started strong and never looked back in the first game of the set, scoring 13 runs in the first three innings to secure a 13-0 victory. Bethel then rode the arm of Karli Persson for a 4-0 win in game two.

The first inning of the day was highlighted by an Angie Jackson solo home run as a part of the three run first. The Royal's bats really came alive in the second, scoring six runs including a Caroline Kivisto two run single, and an Abbie Bircher single which also scored two. The Royals never took their foot off the gas as they added four more in the third inning, where Caroline Kivisto continued her day with a three run home run. Lindsey Edeen got the start and the win on the mound for the Royals, as she only allowed two hits in her three innings of work. The win brings her overall record this season to 9-4.

Game two between the Royals and the Auggies didn't produce quite the offensive outburst as the first, but the Royals got the win with a 4-0 final score. Bethel steadily added to their lead throughout the contest, scoring one run in the first, then two in the third, and one in the sixth to build their lead. Angie Jackson drove in an RBI in the first, and the Royals added two more in the third including a fielder's choice RBI and a Caroline Kivisto single to left. The Royals again had stellar pitching in the ladder game of the day, with Karli Persson going seven innings, allowing just one hit and striking out four. The win gives her eight on the year to go with five losses.

The two wins give the Royals 22 on the year and a 13-3 record in the MIAC. The Royals will again be in action this Saturday with a showdown against Gustavus starting at 1 pm. Bethel sits in second place in the MIAC standings and holds a one game lead over the Golden Gusties at 12-4 while both teams are chasing league leading Hamline at 15-1 with both teams scheduled to face the Pipers over the next week.
