MIAC Softball Player-of-the-WeekThe Bethel softball team had a productive week, going 4-2 in three MIAC doubleheaders, with star shortstop
Angie Jackson (Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul) leading the way. Jackson batted .455 (10-for-22) with two home runs, two doubles, and she scored seven runs and drove in three more. For her performance, the MIAC sports information directors honored Jackson Monday with the MIAC Softball Player-of-the-Week award.
Jackson was especially good in three of the four Royals' victories last week. She went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI in a 9-2 win over Saint Benedict. She followed that up with a 2-for-4 performance with a home run in a 4-1 win over St. Catherine, and she homered again and scored three runs in a 3-for-5 day at the plate to key a 10-1 victory against St. Olaf. This season, Jackson is hitting .415 with 23 runs scored, nine RBI and four home runs. She leads the MIAC in runs (20), homers (four) and total bases (38) while hitting .467 in conference play in 2015.
Thanks to the 4-2 record last week, Bethel improved to 16-10 overall and 9-3 in MIAC play. The Royals are currently tied for second place in the conference standings with defending champion St. Thomas, as the two only trail 11-1 Hamline. Bethel has another busy week with three MIAC doubleheaders on the docket. The Royals host Concordia Tuesday and Augsburg Thursday - both at 3:30 p.m. - and travel to Gustavus Saturday for a 1 p.m. twin bill.
