Box ScoreMINNEAPOLIS—The Bethel University women's tennis team continued their strong start to the 2015 season, as the Royals dominated Hamline University at Baseline Tennis Center Friday night 8-1. With the win, BU improves to 3-0 in conference play and several players remained unbeaten on the season.
"We came out with a lot of energy, which really set the tone throughout the night," said head tennis coach
Drew Fernelius. "Getting a sweep in doubles play gave us great confidence heading into the singles matches."
Kristin Vivian and
Abby Kreklau defeated their opponents at No. 1 doubles 8-2, while
Kourtney Jakubic and
Anna Browning quickly followed suit with an 8-3 victory at No. 3 doubles.
Mattie Kidder and Maddy Simpson closed out the opening round with an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles.
Seniors
Kristin Vivian and
Abby Kreklau continued their success throughout the night, as Vivian knocked off Hamline's No. 1 singles player 6-3, 6-1 and Kreklau was victorious at No. 3 singles 6-2, 3-6, (10-7). The Royals picked up three more points thanks to
Mattie Kidder's 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles,
Larissa Voss's 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 5, and
Anna Browning's 6-1, 6-2 triumph at No. 6 singles.
"I am very proud of our team's effort tonight," continued Fernelius. "We're excited to be 3-0, but we know there is a lot of season left and in order to accomplish our goals we need to continually get better."
Bethel will face Gustavus Adolphus and Carleton College both on the road in their next two matches before spending their spring break in Orlando, FL March 15-20.
