Women's Soccer Can't Overcome Early Deficit, Fall 0-3

ST. PAUL—The Bethel University women's soccer team traveled to St. Paul on a cold, dreary Wednesday evening to take on Hamline Univeristy and fell by a final score of 0-3. The Pipers came out of the gates firing on all cylinders, as they used a first-half surge to propel them to the victory.

Hamline scored an early goal to acquire the lead that would carry through to the finish. The Pipers were then able to score their second goal of the game in the 18th minute, which handed BU an 0-2 deficit. Bethel struggled to get their offense clicking in the first half, which led to a 1-6 shooting advantage by the Pipers after 45 minutes of play.

Hamline utilized their first-half momentum in the early stages of the second period, as the Pipers netted their third goal of the game in the first 10 minutes of the final frame. The Royals controlled the ball much better after Hamline's third goal, as they outshot the Pipers 4-2 in the second half. That offensive production helped Bethel's defense, as they shut Hamline out for the remaining 35 minutes of the game.

Bethel had five shots-on-goal, while Hamline had eight. Four of the Royals shots came in the second half. Julia Perkins had three shots-on-goal to lead BU's offense. Defensively, Jess Gapinski had four saves.

The Royals will return home to the Ona Orth Complex for the season finale against Macalaster College this Saturday. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
