Royals Give a Strong Defensive Effort in 2-0 Season Ending Loss to Macalester

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University women's soccer team was defeated 2-0 by the second-place Macalester College Scots on Saturday afternoon to conclude their 2015 season.  Despite a strong start to the game, the Royals ultimately fell short and could not break through against one of the best teams in the conference.

"I was really proud of our effort today and throughout the season, our record may not show it but we certainly battled hard and I genuinely love this team," said head coach Amanda Maxwell.

The Royals battled the Scots aggressively in the first half as both teams had numerous scoring chances but the defenses ultimately prevailed.  The Scots had an early opportunity after receiving a penalty kick but the Royals' senior goalkeeper Kathryn McGaffey made an acrobatic save to send the momentum back to the home team.  Along with McGaffey, the Royals started seven other seniors on their senior day and they all competed well in the first half as the game entered halftime scoreless.

The second half looked to be unfolding similarly to the opening period before the Scots finally broke the tie in the 67th minute.  Jaime Hasama, leading the Scots in goals and points heading into Saturday's contest, converted the pass from Lydia Chodosh for her eighth goal of the season.  Just twelve minutes later, Hasama captured another goal off the assist from Hannah Pollard-Garber and iced the game for Macalester.

Saturday marked the end of the 2015 season for the Royals who finished 3-14.  After sending their beloved seniors off, they will now look ahead to next season and look to develop their array of young talent.
