Volleyball Wins Seventh Straight MIAC Match with Sweep over Macalester

ARDEN HILLS, Minn.—The Bethel University volleyball team won its seventh consecutive conference match thanks to a sweep over Macalester College Wednesday evening. The Royals improved to 20-8 on the season with an 8-2 mark in MIAC play, which marks the first time since 2011 (which was the same year that BU last made the NCAA Tournament) that Bethel reached the 20-win plateau.

The Royals made quick work of the Scots (14-14, 1-9 MIAC), defeating them 25-16, 25-19, and 25-16. As a unit, BU totaled 58 points on 46 kills, three aces, and nine blocks. Meanwhile, Macalester was limited to 35 points on 29 kills, two aces, and four blocks. Collectively, Bethel hit .320 throughout the match, including a .360 mark in the second frame.

The trio of Tina Hoppe, Kristin Stern, and Carlee Hoppe all finished with 10 kills throughout the night. Kristin Stern finished with an astounding .625 hitting percentage, while Tina Hoppe hit .381 and Carlee Hoppe .280. Carlee Hoppe added six digs and three block assists.

Leading the Royals at the net was Tegan LaBerge, who tallied nine kills and eight block assists. LaBerge has blocked 46 attack attempts in the past seven matches, which is an average of 2.0 blocks per set. She currently leads the league in blocks per set with a 1.25 average.

Katie Lubben and Mikayla Morrow each had an incredible performance, as Lubben led all players with 24 assists and Morrow followed suite with 19. Together the pair amassed 43 assists, compared to Macalester's 25. Senior libero Kali Johnson led all players with 15 digs.

Bethel will close out the regular season Saturday with a home contest against Augsburg College. The Royals and Auggies have a lot to play for still, as BU is looking to lock in the No. 2 seed and Augsburg is attempting to hold down the sixth and final playoff spot. A win for Bethel would guarantee the Royals a first-round bye and a home match on Thursday, November 5. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
