ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University women's soccer team was defeated by the Concordia College Cobbers on Saturday afternoon by a score of 2-1. Despite a strong effort from the Royals, the fourth-place Cobbers ultimately came out on top and notched their tenth victory of the season.
The Royals started quickly by notching the game's first score in the 20th minute after Erin Ness converted a pass from Mikayla Nordin. It was the first goal of the season for Ness and the early goal gave the Royals a lead they would sustain heading into halftime. Although the Cobbers produced four shots to just three for the Royals in the opening period, the strong goaltending for the home team made the difference.
The second half began in similar fashion to the first as both teams continued to play stifling defense. However, the Cobbers eventually broke through in the 68th minute as Alexandra Jones rifled a shot through the Royals' defense for her third goal of the season. The Cobbers then broke the tie in the 77th minute as Emily Wendorff converted her 8th goal of the season. The Royals were not able to answer in the final minutes despite a hard-fought comeback effort with several near misses.
The Royals will now look ahead to their next contest against Hamline University on Wednesday before returning to the Ona Orth Complex for their last matchup of the year against Macalester College.
