ST. PETER, Minn. – The Bethel University men's soccer team went on the road Saturday afternoon looking to collect their fourth win in the last five games but a valiant second half comeback attempt fell just short in a 2-1 loss to Gustavus Adolphus College. The Gusties scored the game's first goal in the 37th minute and the game remained 1-0 into the second half. Bethel came out strong in the second period and eventually tied the game up at 1-1 in the 79th minute on freshman
Brendan Reich's first collegiate goal. Unfortunately for Bethel, the Gusties reclaimed the lead just four minutes later and held on for the last six minutes of the game to take the 2-1 victory. Bethel outshot Gustavus 6-4 in the second half, putting five of the six shots on goal.
Jakob Bartels made seven saves for Bethel.
The loss drops the Royals to 1-5-1 in the MIAC and 4-8-2 overall while Gustavus improved to 1-4-3 and 6-4-3. The next action for Bethel will be a Tuesday afternoon non-conference tilt at North Central University in downtown Minneapolis at 3 p.m.
