Box Score NORTHFIELD, Minn.—Bethel University's men's basketball team traveled to Northfield, Minn., Saturday afternoon for a highly-contested matchup with Carleton College and unfortunately for the Royals, it was the Knights that came away with a 60-57 victory on their home court.
Â
The two squads exchanged ten lead changes and found themselves tied five more times. In addition, no team held a bigger lead than five points and most often it was under three. Yet despite BU possessing a three-point advantage with 7:22 remaining in the game, it was Carleton's 6-0 run over the next three minutes that proved to be the difference maker down the stretch. Bethel had two looks from outside the 3-point arc with under a minute remaining, but failed to convert what would've been a ticket to overtime.
Â
The Knights kept the Royals offense in check throughout the entire game, as BU was held to 31.6 percent shooting from the floor. That led to a sizeable difference in the rebounding margin, as Carleton out-boarded Bethel 43-23. Despite the discrepancy between the two teams in rebounding, BU was able to take advantage of a 6-17 turnover margin in Saturday's matinee. Forcing the Knights into 17 turnovers helped Bethel outscore the Carleton 18-0 in points off turnovers.
Â
Bridgeport Tusler finished the affair with a game-high 18 points, thanks to a 4-of-10 effort from downtown. In addition to Tusler,
Brycen Wojta and
Jackson Canfield each had 12 points with Wojta adding five assists.
Kyle Zimmermann's 17-game streak of scoring in double figures when playing the entire game came to an end, as foul trouble held Zimmermann to seven points and 11 rebounds.
Â
Carleton had four players in double figures with Kevin Grow leading the Knights with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Â
Bethel's ability to bounce back from Saturday's loss will be difficult, as the Royals welcome the University of St. Thomas to the Robertson Center Gym Monday night for a 7 p.m. tipoff. The Tommies enter the matchup tied for first place with a 7-1 mark in conference play.Â
