Royals Softball Splits Series with Gustavus in St. Peter

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ST. PETER, Minn.—Recent snowfall kept the Bethel University softball team from hosting a MIAC battle against highly-touted Gustavus Adolphus, however, it couldn't keep the two teams from playing as the Royals traveled to St. Peter, Minn., to take on the Golden Gusties in conference play.

Bethel nearly won the first game of the twin bill, leading Gustavus 6-3 after five innings of play, but the Gusties scored five unanswered runs in the final two frames to top the Royals 8-6. BU was able to salvage the series, however, taking the second game from Gustavus 4-1.

Lindsay Edeen improved to 8-2 on the season within the pitcher's circle, as the sophomore hurler pitched a complete-game, one-run victory for the Royals. Edeen struck out six and walked one in the MIAC win.

Caroline Kivisto had an exceptional day at the plate, finishing the doubleheader 3-for-6—including two home runs—with two runs scored and six RBI. Kivisto's two home runs resulted in five of her six runs batted in throughout the day.

In addition to Kivisto's success at the plate, junior Kelsey Anderson was 4-for-7 with two runs driven in and two scored. Moreover, Angie Jackson was 3-for-6, including a double and a walk, with three runs scored. Paige Weiske and Tara Schinke each finished the second game 2-for-3.

With the series split, Bethel moves to 15-12 (6-4 MIAC) on the season. The Royals will take on Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., Saturday, followed by a one-day break Sunday, before returning to the diamond Monday at 2 p.m. to face Saint Mary's University at Ona Orth Complex.
