MIAC ReleaseBethel came up with a big nonconference win in its only game last week, as it beat a tough UW-River Falls team. The Royals remained unbeaten behind a huge overall performance by sophomore forward
Kalli Zimmermann (Champlin, Minn. / Champlin Park), who had a double-double while shooting nearly 60 percent from the floor and stuffing her entire stat line in the win. For her performance, the MIAC sports information directors honored Zimmermann Monday afternoon with the MIAC Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award.
Zimmermann was the driving force behind Bethel's 60-54 home win over the Falcons with a 13-point, 13-rebound double-double. However, her impact extended far beyond points and rebounds, as she shot 57.1 percent from the floor and 83.3 percent from the line and added seven steals, six blocked shots and three assists. The great all-around game was a microcosm for Zimmermann's overall performance thus far, as she ranks third in the MIAC in field goal percentage (56.7) and rebounds (9.3 per game), fourth in scoring (17.0 ppg), steals (16), and blocks (eight) and sixth in free throws (17-for-26).
Thanks to the big win, the Royals remained unbeaten in 2014-15 and improved to 3-0. Zimmermann and company will hope to keep the winning streak alive as they enter MIAC play this week. Bethel makes its conference debut Wednesdaywith a 7 p.m. game at St. Catherine, and it will host its MIAC home opener Saturday when St. Olaf comes to town for a 1 p.m. game.
