The Collegiate Sports Information Directors of American honored a pair of Bethel University senior football players to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team last night. Both Bubba Friedlund and Josh Treimer were recipients of this prestigious award after making sizeable contributions on the football field and in the classroom.
 
Already a MIAC Academic All-Conference honoree, Bubba Friedlund was honored with the region award after posting a 3.55 GPA while majoring in Accounting. The 2014 Sporting News Preseason All-American finished 2013 as both an All-MIAC and D3football.com All-Region awardee. This season, BU's offensive tackle, along with the rest of the moving co. up front have allowed just six sacks all year, ranking No. 13 among all programs nationwide. Additionally, they have helped the Royals rush for 1,547 yards in eight games, averaging 193.4 yards per game.
 
In addition to Friedlund, Josh Treimer also received regional recognition after accumulating a cumulative GPA of 3.80 as a Biokinetics major. Treimer has carried his success beyond just the classroom, as he currently ranks No. 5 in the nation with 13 passes broken up. The three-time MIAC Player of the Week has also recorded three interceptions and 37 tackles thus far this season.
 
Within both Friedlund and Treimer's career, the Royals have never been out of the D3football.com Top 25 and have advanced to the postseason twice.  Together, Friedlund and Treimer, along with the rest of the Bethel squad will attempt to make it back-to-back MIAC Championships, which would result in three-straight NCAA Playoff appearances, with a win at Saint John's this Saturday.
