Balanced Scoring Not Enough to Top Johnnies on the Road

Box Score

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn.—Bethel University shot 40 percent from downtown against Saint John's University, but it wasn't enough to take down the Johnnies (4-5, 2-2 MIAC), who shot 48 percent from the floor in Saturday afternoon's 55-69 loss at Collegeville.

The Royals (7-3, 3-2 MIAC) recorded 10 steals and 13 assists, but 19 turnovers proved costly in the MIAC defeat. Bethel shot 40 percent from the floor with Brycen Wojta and Jackson Canfield leading the way with eight points each. Wojta added four steals, three boards, and two assists, while Canfield pulled down eight rebounds and dropped two dimes.

Teammates Trevor Hall and Luke Buttenhoff added seven points, while Tyler Schmidt and Kyle Zimmermann scored six, but despite the balanced scoring, the Royals closest margin in the second half was nine points.

Jack Wittenborg shot 7-of-12 for a game-high 19 points for the Johnnies.

Bethel's contest against St. Thomas originally scheduled for Monday, January 6 was pushed back one week to January 13. As a result, the Royals next competition will be on the road at Gustavus Adolphus on January 8 at 7:30 p.m.
