A goal in each half gave the Royals the upset win over the Auggies

Box Score

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University men's soccer team got its first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) win on Saturday, as they upset No. 21 Augsburg College 2-1. The Royals move to 3-3 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.

"I would first like to thank all the fans for their support on a beautiful day," said Royals coach Jeremy Iwaszkowiec. "I also want to credit the quality program we played. Augsburg is so well coached and are very tough to play. I am so proud of our effort and the way we responded to the loss against St. Olaf. A number of individuals played heavy minutes and exerted a tremendous amount of energy. I am very proud of our defensive efforts as well as the number of quality chances we are creating on the offensive side."

Junior Matthew Pisarski started the scoring in the 11th minute after he corralled a pass from Luke Chase in the box and sent it past the Augsburg goalie.  Freshmen Danny Jaderholm chipped another one in with 12 minutes to play to give Bethel a 2-0 lead. Cody Walkup, who had a great game defensively, set up Jaderholm and was credited with the assist. Augsburg showed life with three minutes to play, cutting the lead to 2-1 but Bethel maintained their composure and cruised to the victory.

"Now we have to regroup quickly and establish some consistency," coach Iwaszkowiec said. "Two tough opponents are coming up against UW-Superior and Carleton."

Bethel plays next on Tuesday, as they take on the Yellow Jackets of UW-Superior in a non-conference matchup.
