Royals Fall in Season Opener, 1-0

A late second period goal was the difference

Box Score

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – In the second game of the Friday doubleheader at the Ona Orth Athletic Complex, the Simpson College Storm defeated the Bethel Royals by a final score of 1-0.

Bethel outshot Simpson 9-5 in the game, but the Royals appeared to have some miscommunication in the 62nd minute, allowing Tyler Neumann of Simpson to find an opening for the only goal of the afternoon, that would be the difference.

"Simpson is a quality opponent and I thought we did some things well," said Royals head coach Jeremey Iwaszkowiec. "Specifically I thought our defenders played extremely well; however, we need to get a bit sharper in the attacking 1/3rd. Obviously, I would have liked the 'W' but I thought it was a fun back and forth game and our boys battled well. Simpson converted on a mistake and that is the difference in soccer sometimes. We will get back to work next week and are looking forward to the next game."

The loss drops the Royals to 0-1-0 on the season, but they will regroup for the week and travel to St. Bonifacius next Friday to play Crown College in a game that kicks off at 4 p.m. Bethel is seeking its first win and attempting to return to .500.
