Perfection at the Plate Gives Jackson Player of the Week

Angie Jackson finishes week 6-for-6 with three walks

MIAC Softball Player-of-the-Week

In sports like baseball and softball, it's often mentioned how even the best players only succeed 30 percent of the time, while 40 percent success - or a .400 average - is the stuff of legends. However, Bethel's Angie Jackson (So., Oakdale, Minn.) had a week for the ages. The Royals' infielder was not only perfect (6-for-6) at the plate for a perfect 1.000 batting average, but she was also perfect on 12 fielding chances from her shortstop position to lead Bethel to a pair of wins last week. For her perfect performance, Jackson was named the MIAC Softball Player-of-the-Week.

Jackson started off with an impressive 4-for-4 performance with two walks, three runs, two RBI, a home run and a double to lead Bethel to an 11-8 slugfest win in the first game against St. Catherine. She continued her tremendous streak in game two, going 2-for-2 with a walk, a run and a double in a 9-1 victory. The sophomore totaled six hits, three walks, four runs, two RBI, two doubles and a home run, and she added 11 assists and one put out in the field for a 1.000 fielding percentage as well. This season, Jackson's .520 batting average and .563 on-base percentage both lead the conference, while her .860 slugging percentage ranks second, behind only teammate Caroline Kivisto.

Bethel's two wins last week helped it move to .500 in MIAC play, and above .500 overall. The Royals are now 13-11 overall, and an even 4-4 in the conference, good for seventh place in the closely-grouped standings. Jackson and her teammates had their early-week games postponed due to weather, and will return to action Friday when they take on Macalester at the Rosemount Dome at 9 p.m. They also host Carleton Saturday in Arden Hills at 1 p.m.
