Three's the magic number: In the previous two matchups between these two MIAC teams, three points have decided the outcome of both games combined. The Knights captured a two-point victory in Northfield, Minn., on December 1, 2012, while the Royals were victorious 74-73 in Arden Hills, Minn., on January 26.
Home court advantage: While playing in Carleton's West Gym the Knights have been nearly unbeatable. Going 10-2 at home in 2012-13, Carleton College dropped a 52-74 contest to St. Thomas and a 52-54 barn-burner to Gustavus. In addition, however, Carleton beat Bethel, Saint John's, and Augsburg by a combined total of seven points.
Hall the way: Bethel forward
Taylor Hall has been a dominant force for the Royals in 2012-13, as the senior out of Blaine, Minn. leads the league in total points (547), offensive rebounds (62), defensive rebounds (186), and total boards (248). Hall also has the highest amount of blocks (40) among all conference contenders.
Mega-Tom: The Knight's Tom Sawatzke has been the heart of Carleton's squad, as the senior guard has not only averaged 18.0 points and 3.5 rebounds a game, but he also has burned Bethel twice in the last two years. Sawatzke buried a game-winning three pointer in Northfield during the 2011-12 campaign and he mirrored the same shot in 2012-13 with time running out to give the Knights the 64-62 victory at West Gym.
Champlin champ: The Royals Kyle Zimmerman, a native of Champlin, Minn., was crowned MIAC Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week last week for his 20.5-point, 10.5-rebound average. Zimmerman's pair of double dips last week caps off eight regular season double-double efforts in the 2012-13 season.
Triple double for Theisen: Carleton's Scott Theisen has been a king of the categories in 2012-13, as the senior is averaging 17.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. Theisen not only leads the league, but the entire country in triple doubles, as the Champlin, Minn., native has done it twice this season.
