ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University men's soccer team lost their fourth straight game on Saturday, as the Macalester Scots defeated them by a score of 4-2 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) match.
It was a dreary, rainy day as Bethel University was celebrating its homecoming, welcoming the Scots to Ona Orth Athletic Complex in a 4p.m. kickoff. The first half belonged to the Scots, as they put up three quick goals and dominated in all facets of the game.
Bethel came out of halftime determined to make a game of it, playing with newfound energy and vigor. Senior
Kolten Fischer tallied a goal from a
Ryan Ness assist, and Matt Pisarski knocked in a rebound to cut the lead to 3-2 in the second half.
"We are struggling to put 90 minutes of consistent soccer together," commented Royals coach
Jeremy Iwaszkowiec. "We responded well in the second half but dug ourselves to deep of a hole in the first. I am sad that we are missing opportunities to take points in the MIAC."
Macalester added an insurance goal to their lead, making the score 4-2, and that's how it would finish, sending the Royals to 3-7 on the season.
"We conceded 3 goals off set pieces and that is not good enough to be competitive in our league," coach Iwaszkowiec said. "We are creating chances offensively in the run of play, which is fun, but we need to continue improving in our finishing efficiency."
The Royals look to end their losing streak on Tuesday, as they host Coe College in a match that kicks off at 4:00 p.m. at Ona Orth Athletic Complex.
