Early Deficit too much to overcome against St. Thomas

Bethel defeated by Tommies 76-44

Box Score

ST. PAUL—A 16-1 run to begin Monday's MIAC contest was too much for Bethel to overcome, as St. Thomas went on to defeat BU in St. Paul 76-44. The Royals (1-10, 0-8 MIAC) attempted to make amends for a 28.6 shooting performance in the first half, but despite a 42.9 mark in the second half the Tommies (10-1, 8-0 MIAC) were too much down the stretch.

Despite trailing 16-1 early in contest, Bethel made a sizeable effort to get itself back in the game midway through the opening period by narrowing the gap to eight points. An 11-0 run for St. Thomas in the first half's final 2:19 was devastating, though, as it gave UST the 41-21 advantage going into the midway break.

The Royals could not respond in the final 20 minutes, but instead the Tommies heightened its lead—capturing the 76-44 victory.

Rachel Parupsky (Fr., Arden Hills, Minn.) led Bethel with 14 points on 3-of-9 shooting from the floor and 8-of-11 shooting from the foul line. Parupsky finished the game with six rebounds and two blocks in the 40-minute affair. Freshman Lexi Freisen (Osage, Iowa) also had eight points and two rebounds in the MIAC competition.

Bethel's women's basketball squad will return home Wednesday to take on St. Catherine University. The Royals, who are still seeking their first conference victory, will tipoff against the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. at the Robertson Center Gym. SCU is the only other team in the conference to be winless after eight games played.
