Royals Capture 55-48 Road Win over Macalester

Bethel grabs second conference victory with win over Scots

ST. PAUL—Bethel University's women's basketball squad took advantage of a 26-16 first half lead against Macalester College Saturday afternoon and went on to win on the road 55-48. The Royals (3-12, 2-10 MIAC) finished the game shooting 40 percent (18-of-45) from the floor, but capped off its win over the Scots (4-11, 3-9 MIAC) with a solid performance at the free throw line—making 14-of-18 in the game and 9-of-10 at the charity stripe in the final five minutes.
 
Head coach Jon Herbrechtsmeyer and his squad capitalized on16 Macalester turnovers—outscoring the Scots 14-11 in points off turnovers. Bethel also outrebounded Macalester 36-33, while holding the Scots to 34.5 percent shooting.
 
“I am very pleased with our performance today,” said Jon Herbrechtsmeyer. “It was a great team win. We had excellent energy on both ends [of the court] today.”
 
Rachel Parupsky (Fr., Arden Hills, Minn.) finished with her fifth double-double of the season Saturday, scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, while also posting four blocks in 26 minutes. Katelyn Vavra (Jr., Askov, Minn.) also scored in double figures, going 3-of-6 from the floor for 10 points. Vavra also added four steals, two assists, and a block.
 
Kelly Swenson (Sr., Dawson, Minn.) and Sydney Schultz (Fr., Dalton, Minn.) also had a solid performance—each finishing with eight points.
 
The Royals will be back in action Monday night when they host Augsburg College at home in a MIAC rematch. Bethel was outscored 64-43 in the first meeting on December 3, but looks to make it two straight wins against a conference opponent.
