Different Night, Same Story for Royals in 5-1 Loss

Penalties changed the momentum for the Royals after gaining an early lead for the second night in a row

Box Score
BLAINE, Minn. – The Saint Mary's University Cardinals complete the sweep of the Bethel Royals by a score of 5-1 n a game that played out eerily similar to Friday's game. The Royals jumped out to an early 1-0 lead but the Cardinals, thanks to Bethel's severe penalty trouble, scored five unanswered goals. A total of nine penalties, including a five minute major and two game misconducts, where called on the Royals resulting in 12 minutes and two goals for the Cardinals. Saint Mary's was called for four penalties in the game and Bethel had just six minutes of power play opportunities, coming up empty.

Colin Mayer (Jr., Mound, Minn.) scored the Royals lone goal and was assisted by Mitch Hughes (Fr., Laguna Niguel, Calif.) and Mitch Killian (Fr., Elkhorn, Neb.). For Hughes, the assist keeps his point streak alive at seven games but his consecutive goal scoring streak died at six. Dan Harper (Jr., Blaine, Minn.) made 28 saves in the net for the Royals.

Bethel will return to action next weekend against St. Olaf College with Friday's game being played in Northfield and Saturday's at the Bethel University Arena. The Oles currently sit just two points behind the Royals in the MIAC standings with a 4-2 record. The loss to Saint Mary's brings a three way tie for second place with the Royals, Saint Mary's and Concordia behind first place St. Thomas (12 points). Saint Mary's has played two less games then the other three teams.
