Bethel's women's tennis team competed against the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Saturday evening at the Sports and Recreation Center on BU's campus and fell 2-7 in nonconference action. The Royals were swept in doubles play, however, managed to snipe victories in the No. 3 and No. 6 singles competitions.
In the doubles matchups Bethel was defeated 8-0 in the No. 1 match, yet played fairly even in the No. 2 and 3 matches, as
Kristin Vivian (Fr., Green Bay, Wis.) and
Kayla Wheeler (Jr., Oakdale, Minn.) were outmatched 8-5 in the No. 2 contest and
Charise Kendrick (So., Scandia, Minn.) and
Amanda Johnson (So., Vadnais Heights, Minn.) were defeated 9-7 in the No. 3 spot.
In singles play
Lisa Scheevel (Jr., St. Cloud, Minn.) upended her Blugold competition in a tie-breaker, winning 4-6, 6-4, 10-6. Abigail Kreklau (Fr., Maple Grove, Minn.) was also victorious in the No. 6 singles competition, defeating her opponent 7-5, 6-0. Wheeler managed to take her singles match to a tie-breaking set, but fell 10-4 in the set.
The Royals will now get set to play Saint Benedict at home on Monday, April 2 a 4:30 p.m.
