Box Score  | Video Highlights

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – It was déjà vu for the Royals in Northfield, Minn. Saturday, as Carleton College came back to beat Bethel 64-62 with a last-second three-pointer by Tom Sawatzke. JD Robinson (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) rattled a bucket in with 0:18 remaining to give the Royals (2-3, 0-2 MIAC) a 62-61 advantage, but Sawatzke threw up a well-defended jumper from 35 feet that went in with 0:02 on the clock, which gave the Knights (3-1, 1-0 MIAC) the 64-62 victory and its first conference win.

Bethel trailed 31-33 at the half, with an lopsided 17-10 rebounding disadvantage, however, the Royals climbed back with a 15-6 run in the first seven minutes of the second half to go ahead 46-41. Yet the Knights stayed close and took back the one-point lead with 4:00 left in the game. A big three-pointer and a forced charge foul by Jared Nelson (Fr., Lino Lakes, Minn.) helped Bethel regain the lead late, but it was Sawatzke's clutch shot that gave the Royals its second consecutive conference loss to start the 2012-13 campaign.

Taylor Hall (Sr., Blaine, Minn.) was held to a season-low of 14 points, but the forward still led the team, along with eight rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and two steals. Kyle Zimmerman (Jr., Champlin, Minn.) posted a double-double Saturday afternoon with 10 points and 10 boards, while JD Robinson and Quinn Gorski (Jr., Batavia, Ill.) each scored 12 points.

The Royals dominated in the paint—outscoring the Knights 36-20—while also outscoring Carleton on points off turnovers 19-11. In addition, Bethel outshot the Knights throughout the afternoon matinee, finishing with a 46.0-39.6 field goal percentage advantage. BU only mustered 4-of-16 shooting from beyond the 3-point arc, though, and went 0-for-5 from the free throw line. Carleton, meanwhile, completed 16-of-16 from the charity stripe.

Bethel will look for its first conference victory, as it hosts Augsburg College Monday night for a MIAC matchup versus the Auggies, who defeated Concordia College Saturday afternoon. Monday's tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Live stats and webcasts will be available here.
