ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – Bethel rebounded quickly Saturday night with a 75-61 victory over the College of St. Scholastica in the consolation game of the 2012 Perkins Tip-Off Tournament. Senior
Taylor Hall (Blaine, Minn.) put forth another all-around performance against the Saints (0-2), as his 35-point, 17-rebound affair helped the Royals (1-1) secure its first victory of the season.
Bethel jumped out of the gates early with a 39-24 lead at the half, thanks in part to 51.8 percent shooting from the floor and 100% shooting from the charity stripe. The Royals followed it up with 52 percent shooting in the second to finish the game with a shooting mark of 51.9 percent.
The Saints finished the game with three players in double figures, while Bethel's Hall was the only player to finish with over eight points. Freshmen Casey Aden (Side Lake, Minn.) went 3-of-3 from the floor to put eight points on the board for the Royals, while
Quinn Gorski (Jr., Batavia, Ill.) and
JD Robinson (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) each had seven.
As a unit, Bethel's defense forced 20 St. Scholastica turnovers that resulted in a 31-9 point advantage throughout the 40 minutes played. The Royals also outrebounded its opponents 36-31, including a 29-24 advantage in defensive boards.
The win gives BU sound momentum heading into Tuesday night's matchup against Buena Vista, when the Royals host the Beavers for a nonconference midweek game. Bethel will continue its season at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Robertson Center Gym against BVU.
