Bethel played the #14 ranked Knights tough but could not get on the scoreboard

Box Score

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – An early goal, seven and a half minutes in, and a goal inside the final minute gave Carleton a 2-0 victory over the Bethel University men's soccer team Saturday afternoon. The Knights, ranked #14 in the NSCAA national rankings, improved to 14-1-1 and maintained their second place standing in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) standings.

“I was proud of the effort today,” said Royals coach Jeremy Iwaszkowiec. “The boys came out and battled for 90 minutes. We are continuing to improve as the season goes on, which is very pleasing to see. It was unfortunate to concede the second goal in the last few seconds as our boys deserved a better result.”

The young Royals gave the Knights one of their toughest games this season. Carleton has outscored their opponents 55-10 on the season and 17-1 in their previous four games. The Royals were outshot 16-3. Ryan Ness (Fr., Elk River, Minn.) had two of the Royals shots.

Bethel will return home for their final home game of the season Tuesday as they host St. Olaf College at 3:30 p.m. The Oles are currently tied for fourth place in the MIAC and are fighting for a playoff spot. The Royals will honor their four seniors, Brent Niehart (Prairie Village, Kan.), Brian Holm (Champlin, Minn.), Gavin Woodland (Waconia, Minn.) and Kyle Terhark (New Market, Minn.), in their final game at the Ona Orth Athletic Complex.
