CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Bethel University men's soccer team completed the sweep of Coe College with a 2-1 victory Tuesday afternoon, following up on the women's 2-0 victory. All of the scoring in the game happened within the first 17 minutes with the Royals scoring first, just 44 seconds in. It was the second win of the season for the Royals who improved to 2-9. Coe fell to 4-8-1 with the loss.

Just 44 seconds into the match, Matthew Pisarski (So., West Des Moines, Iowa) scored his second goal of the season off an assist from Kolten Fischer (Jr., Shoreview, Minn.). At the 14:25 mark, Cody Walkup (Jr., Des Moines, Iowa) scored his first goal of the season, giving the Royals a 2-0 lead. Three minutes later Coe scored on a penalty kick from 25 yards out to pull within one goal, but that would be it for scoring in the remaining 72 minutes of the match.

“I am very happy for the boys,” said Royals coach Jeremy Iwaszkowiec. “They played well and battled for 90 minutes. We are learning some great lessons about perseverance and hard work. It was fun to see them enjoy this game. Everyone on the trip contributed to the win. It was a great effort.”

The Royals outshot the Kohawks 12-10 with a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Bethel will stay on the road as they travel to face Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) foe Gustavus Adolphus College Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. in St. Peter, Minnesota. Gustavus is currently in second place in the MIAC with a 3-1-1 record while the Royals are 1-3 in MIAC play.
