MIAC Release

ST. PAUL, Minn. -
The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) kicked off its 2011 football season in grand fashion last weekend with a slate of seven nonconference games. MIAC schools were victorious in six of the seven games - including Bethel, with the lone loss coming by a field goal.

Bethel came out of Week 1 with the most impressive stats of anyone in the MIAC. Its offense piled up 55 points behind more than 400 rushing yards, and MIAC Offensive Player of the Week, QB Josh Aakre (Sr., Dawson, Minn.) and freshman RB Brandon Marquardt (Fr., Champlin, Minn.) have the early lead on the MIAC's best 1-2 offensive punch after each ran for more than 130 yards in the opener. The Bethel defense was its usual stout self as well, allowing just six first downs, 109 yards and a meaningless fourth-quarter field goal.

Concordia-Wisconsin can't be thrilled about another MIAC team coming to town, especially one of the sixth-ranked Royals' caliber. A week ago, Concordia-Wisconsin lost its home opener when Augsburg scored a go-ahead touchdown with less than six minutes to play to score a 34-31 win in both teams' 2011 opener.
