ROSEVILLE, Minn. - The women's volleyball team didn't have far to travel as they opened up the 2011 season on Thusday. The Royal played two opponents in day one of the Northwestern College Tournament. In the afternoon Bethel defeated Wisconsin Lutheran by a score of 3-1 and battled a tough Northwestern College squad going down 3-1.

In both matches the Royals looked sharp, giving encouraging signs for to what is to come this season. Highlights from game one included Kate Smith racking up 36 assists against Wisconsin Lutheran, while Valerie Smith had 28 digs. Against the Eagles in game two Smith had 28 assists and Amy Werner had 12 kills.

The women will be back in action today as they take on UW-River Falls at 3:15 and UW-Oshkosh 5:30.
