MINNEAPOLIS - The Royals ended their regular season on Wednesday as they split the doubleheader against St. Scholastica. With the win in game 2 the Royals broke the team record for number of wins in a season. In 2011 Bethel has accumulated 24 wins, which breaks the previous record of 23. This is the 3rd year in a row that the Royals have won at least 24.
In the first game the Royals dropped a close battle, going down 2-4.
Jess Newstrom drove in both runs for Bethel, while Christina Masten lead the teams hitting with 2 hits.
Randi Thompson pitched 6 complete innings for Bethel allowing 4 runs on 5 hits, while striking out 8.
Game 2 was also a close game as the Royals took the victory in extra innings 8-7. Bethel scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 8th to seal their victory. The team accumulated 7 runs on 8 hits against St. Scholastica.
Kelly Berg lead the team with 2 hits, while
Becky Akerson drove in 2 RBI's. Akerson was also the winning pitcher in game 2 as she threw a complete game allowing only 6 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 4.
The Royals end their 2011 campaign in a tie with Hamline for the 4th spot in the MIAC playoffs. Unfortunately Bethel lost the playoff tiebreaker and will miss out on this years conference tournament. Bethel's overall record for 2011 was 24-16, and they were 14-8 in the MIAC.
