ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Royals completed the conference portion of the 2011 regular season schedule on Monday as they took on Carleton. Bethel split the doubleheader with the Knights, winning the first game 8-4 and dropping the second 9-7.
Randi Thompson earned her 9th win of the year in game 1. Thompson pitched a complete game, allowing only 4 runs on 10 hits while striking out 12.
Kelly Berg and
Anja Erlandson each had 2 RBI's in the first game. Erlandson also led the Royals with 3 hits.
In game 2 Bethel led after 1 inning 3-2, but the Knights were able to put 3 runs up in both the 2nd and 3rd innings to take and hold the lead. The Royals made a push of their own, scoring 3 in 4th, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
Genna Bock got the start in the second game, but ran into trouble early after pitching 1.2 innings. Bock's record on the year is now 8-4. Senior
Becky Akerson came in relief to pitch the final 4.1, allowing 4 runs on 9 hits. Bethel out hits the Knights 16-13 in the game, but left 9 runners on base.

Becky Akerson all contributed 3 hits the the Royals effort, while
Megan Matson, and
Jess Newstrom each hit 2 RBI's
The win in game 1 ties the Royals with their team record for number of wins in a season with 23. They will attempt to break that record on Wednesday when they take on St. Scholastica. Wednesday's games will take place at the University of Minnesota's Crowley Field, with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m.
