BOX SCORES: GAME 1 | GAME 2
ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Royals were forced to take a split against the Oles on Sunday. The cold, wet, and windy weather kept Bethel from finding a groove until almost half way through game 2. In the first game the Royals were unable to get turn hits into runs as they went down 9-1. Then in game two the script looked similar to the first as they found themselves down 7-0 going into the bottom of the 2nd inning. At that point the bats did start going, but it wasnt until the bottom of the 5th inning when the Royals scored 6 runs that they finally took the lead, and never looked back finishing with a final score of 16-8.
Senior
Randi Thompson pitched a total of 8.2 innings combined between the two games, earning 1 loss and 1 win. In game two the Royals big 5th inning came as a result of 2 singles and a walk loading the bases as Thompson then came to bat and hit a bases clearing double. Another walked followed by a
Rachel Gilbert homer gave Bethel enough momentum to take game 2.
The game 1 loss has moved the Royals from sitting in 3rd in the MIAC standing to 4th. There is just one conference series still to be played against the Knights of Carleton. The Royals have also added a game against St. Scholastica to the schedule which will be played Wednesday at 5 p.m. The game will be played at the University of Minnesota's Crowley Stadium.
