MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Bethel took advantage of what turned out to be a great evening for softball. The Royals sweep the Auggies in Thursday's double header winning the first game 9-2, and the second 3-1. The wins help the Royals come one step closer to locking in a spot in the 2011 MIAC playoffs.
In game one
Randi Thompson got her 7th win of the year. Thompson allowed only 2 runs on 4 hits, while strking out 6. The Bethel bats were lead again by senior shortstop
Kelly Berg who scored 3 runs, with 3 hits and 2 rbi's.
Megan Matson also had a great evening, going 3-3 at the plate earning 3 rbi's on 3 hits, and scoring 3 runs.
Game 2 was a closer affair as Augsburg out hit the Royals 7-6, but good defense by the Royals only allowed 1 of those 7 hits to score as Augsburg left 6 on base.
Becky Akerson eraned her 5th win on the season, only allowing the 1 run, while striking out 3.
Rachel Gilbert had 2 hits and 2 rbi's in game to to give Bethel the go ahead run.
Bethel is scheduled to play their last regular season home series on Saturday against St. Olaf College. The Oles come into the weekend with an overall record of 9-19, and 6-8 in the MIAC. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
