Game 1
Game 2
ST. PETER, Minn. - The Bethel Royals Softball team had some tough luck Saturday find them, as they couldn't manage a win in their doubleheader against Gustavus Adolphus College. The Royals fell by scores of 9-1 and 8-5.
Royal's starter
Genna Bock was a little erratic in game one, as she walked 5 Gusties in the first inning that would eventually cross home plate to give them an early 5-1 lead. Rebecca Akerson came in for Bock and pitched a solid 5.1 innings while allowing 3 earned runs and 8 hits. Unfortunately for the Royals, their bats couldn't get going in game one. Bethel only managed 1 run in the affair, with
Cristina Masten being the only Royal to have a multi-hit game. She finished game one going 2-3 at the dish and also had the lone RBI.
Facing a tough Gusties squad, the Royals knew they had their work cut out for them in game two. The Gusties once again got off to a fast start, but the Royals came storming back with 3 runs in the top of the 3rd to tie the game at 4. However, the score would not remain tied for long, as the Gusties put two on the board in the bottom half of the third, and another two in the bottom of the sixth to give themselves an 8-5 lead. The lead would prove to be enough, with Gustavus winning by that score. Akerson started game two for the Royals, pitching 3 innings while allowing 5 earned runs on 2 walks, 5 hits, and 1 strikeout. Bock would come in relief and be handed the loss. Bock went 2.1 innings giving up 2 earned runs.
The Royals outhit the Gusties in game two 10-8, being lead by Akerson,
Rachel Gilbert,
Kelly Berg, and
Megan Matson. All four players had 2 hits apiece, with Gilbert delivering a roundtripper and 2 runs scored.
The Royals are currently 9-5 in the MIAC with a 18-12 overall record. They resume play Monday in Moorhead, Minnesota when they take on Concordia College at 4 p.m.
