BOX SCORES: GAME 1 | GAME 2

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Royals had an exciting night on Thursday as they swept St. Benedict. With weather looking favorable for softball the Royals took to the field at the Ona Orth Athletic Complex. Bethel won game 1 in extra innings 7-6, and then came back in game 2 to win 5-3 before daylight and rain forced the game to be called after 4 1/2 innings.

Randi Thompson (Sr., Blaine, Minn.) pitched 10 innings in game 1 to earn the win. Thompson struck out 5 while only walking 2. With the win Thompson's record improves to 6-3 with and era of 3.21. After finishing the scheduled 7 innings the game was tied at 5 forcing extra innings. In the 10th inning a tie-break rule was enforced in which each team start their at bat with a runner on 2nd base. With a runner on 2nd to start the 2nd St. Ben's was able to score 1 run in the top of the 10, forcing the Royals to produce on offense in the bottom of the 10th. The Royals were able to do just that as they scored 2 run in the bottom of the 10th to seal the victory thanks to rbi's from Megan Matson and Steph Vosberg.

In game 2 Megan Matson and Kelly Berg kept the bats going, each producing 2 rbi's. Junior Genna Bock took the mound, pitching 5 innings, allowing 3 hits and 3 runs, striking out 6.

The swep improves the Royals overall record to 18-10 and 9-3 in the MIAC. The next game for Bethel is schedule for Friday at Gustavus, however it is possible that weather may force the game to Saturday.
