ROCHESTER, Minn. - This past Saturday the Bethel women got the 2011 season off to a strong start. The team split a pair of games between UW-LaCrosse, and UW-Platteville.

In the first game the Royals faced off against the perennial powerhouse of the LaCrosse Eagles who were 39-9 a season ago. Bethel hung right with the Eagles until the 4th inning when LaCrosse put up 4 runs on 5 hits. The Royals scored 2 runs on 5 hits against the Eagles who put up 8 runs on 13 hits with 2 errors.

In the second game the Royals got the bats going as they put up big numbers in both the 2nd and 5th innings to defeat Platteville by a score of 10-5. Senior captain Kelly Burg (South Haven, Minn.) homered twice in the game. In the 2nd inning with the bases loaded Berg knocked one out of the park to put the Royals up 6-1 at the end of the 2nd.

The Royals will see their next action in sunny Florida as the team travels down south for their annual spring break trip. During the road stint the squad will face 14 teams in just 7 days. Then the Royals will return home to begin the MIAC portion of their schedule with Gustavus at the end of the month.
