BOX SCORE
Winona, Minn. - The Royals made an impression last weekend against #11 Hamline University when they made a comeback but failed to come out on top as OT lead to a tie game. Yet, today they made the difference and were able to clinch the "W". The Bethel University Royals ended the game, on top, 4-3.
The Saint Mary's University Cardinals came out in the first period ready to play and willing to score. With three power play opportunities, the Cardinals were able to rack up 15 shots to Bethel's 5. Kevin Wentland (Columbia Heights, Minn.) lead off the scoring followed by Austin Balko (Midland, Mich.) The period ended with the Royals down 2-0.
Bethel jumped back into the game very quickly when
Jake Kogler scored just 13 seconds into the period, from
Jon Crouse. The Cardinals answered Kogler and brought the game back within two goals as Austin Balko (Midland, Mich.) scored his second of the night. It was at this point the Royals 'put on the jets' and began their onslaught.
Austin Hatch scored one from
Jack Paul and
Jon Crouse. Then, 35 seconds later,
Jake Kogler scored to tie the game from
Jack Paul and
Jon Crouse.
The third period was sealed by a tricky goal scored by
Chris Fiala who shot from behind the goal-line, hitting off the goaltender and into the net. The assists went to
Jack Paul and
Tyler Sorensen. The Cardinals tried for an extra attacker in the final moments of the third period but were unable to tie the game up.
The Royals play tomorrow (January 22, 2011) at the Bethel University Arena. Puck drops at 7:00 p.m.
