RIVER FALLS, Wis. - Bethel returned to the field again today, looking to bounce back from a pair of losses to Gustavus the day before. Unfortunately, it was not to be as the UW-River Falls Falcons bested the Royals 5-0 and 9-2.

In the first game, the Falcons took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, then put three more runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth to pull away for good. The Royals were able to muster just one hit and two walks off of River Falls pitching. Rachel Gilbert (Fr., Becker, Minn.) had the lone hit for Bethel in the first game.

The second game played out much like the first as UW-River Falls scored early to build what proved to be an insurmountable lead against the Royals. Bethel scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning to keep the game alive, but was unable to chip away at the deficit any further. Gilbert and Jess Newstrom (Fr., Cambridge, Minn.) drove in both Bethel runs and Ashley Johnsen (Sr., Maple Grove, Minn.) was 2-for-3 with a double.

The losses drop Bethel to 8-12 overall on the season, while UW-River Falls improves to 9-7. The Royals are scheduled to return home for a pair of games against Concordia-Moorhead next Tuesday for their next conference games. The first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Ona Orth Athletic Complex.
