CLERMONT, Fla. - Bethel put the wraps on its spring break trip today and will return home shortly, but not on a winning note. Both Babson and nationally ranked UW-Whitewater got the better of the Royals 3-1, and 8-2 respectively.
Against Babson,
Kelly Berg (Jr., South Haven, Minn.) got the only two hits of the game for the Royals. One of them knocked in leadoff hitter
Rachel Gilbert (Fr., Becker, Minn.) in the first inning for the only Bethel run of the game. Rebecca Akerson (Jr., Lakeville, Minn.) pitched a strong game, allowing only five hits, but they were enough to produce three runs in the loss.
The Royals finished their eight-day, 16-game trip with a loss to #12 UW-Whitewater. Bethel fell behind early, but had a great opportunity to climb back into the game in the fourth inning.
Lauren Habisch (Sr., Lakeville, Minn.) belted a two-run triple to give Bethel a pair of runs. Unfortunately, the Royals left the bases loaded by inning's end. However, Bethel's pitchers shut out the Warhawks for the last three innings of play.
The losses drop Bethel to 8-8 overall on the season. The team is scheduled to return home to face Gustavus Adolphus on March 31 for their next games.
