CLERMONT, Fla. - Bethel's softball team left the damp and rainy weather of Minnesota, only to find more damp and rainy weather in the Orlando area. Nevertheless, the Royals played three games during their first full day in the Sunshine State and finished with a 1-2 record.

Bethel was originally schedule to play a doubleheader against Wisconsin Lutheran, but scratched one of those games out in favor of playing Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), who was trying to make up for games lost to the weather. The Royals fell by a score of 5-3 to Wisconsin Lutheran before dropping their game to RPI 6-1.

However, Bethel ended the day on a positive note by blanking the Mount Vernon Nazarene University Cougars 5-0. Rebecca Akerson (Jr., Lakeville, Minn.) pitched a complete game shutout, scattering five hits over her seven innings and striking out two batters. Kelly Berg (Jr., South Haven, Minn.) had a double and knocked in a pair of runs in the effort.
