Knights Top Royals in Thrilling Season Finale

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Royals saved one of their best all around performances for last, but fell short to the visiting Knights, 72-67.

In the first half, the game was very close as neither team led by more than four points and the score was tied nine times. Carleton made 7-13 three-pointers in the first half. Daniel Baah (So., Farmington, Minn.) sunk a 3-pointer just as time expired in the first half to lead the Royals in to the locker room up 41-39. The second half was just as entertaining as the first. However, a late 3-pointer by Seth Jonker sealed the deal for the Knights.

The Royals were led by Baah, who scored 17 points. Nate Robertson (Sr., Forest Lake, Minn.) earned his eighth double-double of the year by scoring 11 and collecting 13 rebounds. Zach Hurd (Jr., Portage, Mich.) scored a career-high 11 points and had three assists to help the cause.

The Knights were led by Bryan Rosett who scored a game-high 20 points. Jeremy Sutherland also contributed 18 points and seven assists.

For three Bethel Royals, the loss was bittersweet as they put on a Bethel uniform for the last time: Rob Lang (Sr., Johnston,Iowa), Chris Vavra (Sr., Cambridge, Minn.) and Robertson. Lang finished with his best season statistically, averaging 7.9 points per game. Vavra was a key part of the teams success averaging 13.6 points this season. Robertson came to Bethel from UW-River Falls, with 609 points and contributed 551 points here giving his collegiate career point total to 1,160 points. 

The Royals finish the season with an overall record of 11-14 and 7-13 in the MIAC. The Knights improved to 16-9 overall and 12-8 in the MIAC. They will host Hamline in the first round of the conference playoffs.
