Logan Flannery (Jr., Lakeville, Minn.) scored four touchdowns as the Bethel Royals rolled to a 52-10 victory over the hosting Concordia-Wisconsin Falcons in the season opener today. Quarterback
Josh Aakre (So., Dawson, Minn.) completed 11 of his 21 passes for 230 yards and a touchdown, and also ran the ball eight times for 54 yards and two touchdowns in the game. Flannery finished with 52 yards on 12 carries.
Joel Quick (Sr., Johnston, Iowa) led Bethel receivers with 136 yards on six receptions.
The Royals jumped out to a 28-0 lead by the end of the first quarter, and steadily added to their lead throughout the game. Bethel's defense allowed just 204 yards of total offense, and only 61 of them on the ground. Preseason All-American
Tim Cornish (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) intercepted a pass and returned it 46 yards. He also had two solo tackles and assisted on two others, while also forcing a fumble during the game.
Bethel has now defeated Concordia-Wisconsin three seasons in a row, beginning with the team's first ever NCAA playoff victory in 2007. The Royals are now 1-0, while the Falcons drop to 0-1. Bethel returns home to take on #6 nationally ranked Wheaton College next Saturday. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at Royal Stadium.
