MOORHEAD, Minn. - Scoring in the 71st, the Bethel Royals looked primed for another point in the MIAC standings, but the Corcordia Cobbers were able to make one more push, netting a goal late, as the Royals fell 2-1, giving them their first conference loss.
In the first half, Bethel out shot Concordia 10-6, but it was the Cobbers who struck first in the 21st minute, when Riley McGlynn scored his fifth goal of the season, assisted by Marco Riboli and Patrick Rundlett. The score remained 1-0 through halftime and the first 26 minutes of the second half, until
Kirk Darling (Jr., Portage, Mich.) scored the equalizer, finishing after
Andreas Scott (Jr., Cedar, Minn.) hit the crossbar off a corner kick from
Michael Voigtlander (Jr., Vadnais Heights, Minn.). Concordia would answer in the 82nd minute, when Alex Dahl connected from 10 yards away, putting the ball past the Royal goaltender, assisted by Philip Bruckbauer and Kyle Kazemi.
Greg LeVere (Jr., Fort Worth, Texas) led Bethel with five shots, two on goal, and
Nick Kantor made six saves for the Royals. McGlynn and Dahl each had a team-leading four shots, three on goal, for the Cobbers. Bethel took 16 shots, with five on goal, while Concordia attempted 14 and had eight shots on goal. The Royals had six corner kicks to the Cobbers four and was another physical match-up as Bethel committed 13 fouls and Concordia were given 10, but it was the Cobbers who received three yellow cards.
The Royals fall to 6-3-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the conference with the loss, while the Cobbers improve to 4-6 overall and 2-3 in the MIAC. Bethel is slated to return home to take on Macalester at 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon for its next game.
